Missouri City, Texas, is within the Houston–Sugar Land–Baytown metropolitan statistical area, mostly in Fort Bend County but with a small portion within Harris County. The city is on U.S. Highway 90A and State Highway 6, 20 miles southwest of downtown Houston. Missouri City is an active and diverse community boasting excellent schools, friendly neighborhoods and outstanding business opportunities. Missouri City’s strategic location in the Houston area offers access to airports, business centers, shopping and the Texas Medical Center. Missouri City citizens enjoy a thriving economy in the heart of Fort Bend County.

The 2000 U.S. Census reported a total population of 52,913; a 2005 estimate placed the population at 63,910; and the 2009 estimate shows even more rapid growth, with 72,789 residents. Missouri City covers 30.4 square miles.

In 1890 R. M. Cash and L. E. Luckle, two Houston real estate investors, began purchasing the land that would eventually become Missouri City. It was officially registered in Texas in 1894. The first families to settle at the site came from the Arlington, Texas, area. The first business to open in Missouri City was a blacksmith shop. A general store housed the first post office, which opened in 1897.

Missouri City, TX, utilizes four excellent health care facilities in neighboring Sugar Land, Texas. Sugar Land Surgical Hospital offers a  service-oriented alternative for surgical procedures including endoscopy. St. Luke’s Sugar Land Hospital is a 100-bed, acute care hospital in Sugar Land’s Lake Pointe Town Center. Triumph Healthcare, a wholly-owned subsidiary of RehabCare, specializes in providing acute rehabilitation and long-term acute care services. Since 1998, Methodist Sugar Land Hospital has been serving Missouri City, Texas, residents with a wide range of advanced services, including emergency care, cancer treatment, cardiovascular care and neurosurgery.

Missouri City, Texas, boasts 19 developed parks totaling 354 acres that include Buffalo Run Park and Mosley Park, as well as American Legion Park, a 21-acre park famous for black bass fishing. Missouri City conducts annual events such as Oktoberfest, Snow-fest, Kid-fish-fest, and an Easter egg hunt.

The Fort Bend County portion of Missouri City is served by Fort Bend Independent School District, while the Harris County portion is served by Houston Independent School District. Missouri City, Texas, utilizes the Houston Community College System (HCCS) which operates community colleges in Houston, Missouri City and Stafford. HCCS operates a television channel, Houston Community College Television (HCCTV), which is aired on Houston area cable TV systems and streamed over the internet. The studio complex has one large studio unit, five editing suites and a digital master control system. HCCS began its television channel in 1994.

The Missouri City Municipal Court has exclusive original jurisdiction within the territorial limits of the city in all criminal cases that arise under its ordinances and are punishable by a fine of up to $2,000 in cases that govern fire safety, zoning, or public health and sanitation (including dumping of refuse), and up to $500 in all other cases arising under a municipal ordinance. The Missouri City Court has concurrent jurisdiction with The Justice of the Peace Court, Precinct 2, in Fort Bend County, in all criminal cases arising under state law within the territorial limits of the city which are punishable by “fine only” of any amount. “Fine only” means punishable by fine and such sanctions as authorized by statute not consisting of confinement in jail or imprisonment that are rehabilitative or remedial in nature. Other more major litigation, such as vehicle accidents, workplace accidents, defective product issues, catastrophic injuries, wrongful death claims, and other personal injury claims may be heard in a court in the Fort Bend County Court System.  The County Court facilities are located at 301 Jackson, in Richmond, TX.
