Clear Lake Car Accident Attorney
Were you injured in an auto accident?
The Clear Lake area is made up of Harris and Galveston counties, as well as parts of Houston and Pasadena. There are nine communities that make up the area, and these include Clear Lake City, Clear Lake Shores, El Lago, League City, Nassau Bay, Seabrook, Taylor Lake Village and Webster. Whether you live in the master-planned residential area of Clear Lake City, or in the island community of Clear Lake Shores, or any of the other communities of Clear Lake, it's not uncommon to be involved in an auto collision within Harris or Galveston County.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that in 2011 there were 32,367 fatalities on America's roadways due to auto accidents. In that same year, 9,878 fatalities (31%) were due to an alcohol-impaired driver, which was the same percentage of alcohol-related fatalities for 2010. The Centers for Disease Control reports that every day over 15 people are killed and more than 1,200 are injured in distracted driving crashes. Distracted driving is defined as any activity that takes the driver's attention away from the task of driving. The three main types of driver distraction are:
- Visual – taking the driver's eyes off the road;
- Manual – when the driver's hands are taken off the wheel; and
- Cognitive- when the driver's mind is taken off the task of driving.
Distracted driving includes texting while driving, using a cellular phone or a hands-free device, eating, reading, or operating a navigational system to name a few examples. According to the CDC in 2009 alone, more than 5,400 people died in distracted driving crashes, and approximately 448,000 people were injured in distracted driving crashes. Among those injured in distracted driving crashes, nearly 1,000 deaths and 24,000 injuries involved cellular phone use. (NHTSA Traffic Safety Facts: Distracted Driving 2009) Aside from distracted driving, the remaining common causes of auto accidents include speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Virtually all auto accidents are preventable, and the majority of car accidents can be traced back to driver recklessness or driver negligence. The sad fact is that millions of injuries and thousands of deaths each year are products of unsafe driving, and thousands of men, women and children's lives could be saved if these irresponsible drivers were executing more caution and care. One would assume that they would be fairly compensated after being injured in one of these accidents; however, contrary to popular belief, most auto insurance companies do everything within their power to devalue insurance claims and pay out as little as possible. No insurance adjuster anywhere ever got a pat on the back for paying out a high dollar claim, instead they are congratulated by their superiors for being as cheap as possible, and you don't want this to happen to you.
At Wyly & Cook, PLLC, we are very familiar with the low-balling games insurance companies play, and we don't accept insufficient settlement offers. When necessary, we enlist a team of experts that can investigate the causes of an accident, and we can carefully evaluate all of your current and future economic and non-economic damages, this way we can submit a claim that reflects the true value of your anticipated losses. Without a qualified Clear Lake attorney advocating on your behalf, you're likely to encounter an unworkable adjuster who is dead set on paying you as little as physically possible, and this is their motive no matter how nice they appear to be.
